According to reports, New Yorks pigeons have started perching on Citi Bikes, learning to balance and occasionally pedaling. Riders complain the birds peck at handlebars like gym bros hogging equipment. Some tourists think its an official Citi Bike feature called “eco-coop transit.”
“Theyre unionizing,” warned one commuter after being chased by a pigeon wearing a bike helmet. Delivery workers say pigeons are competitionfaster, cheaper, and less likely to steal fries.
TikToks #PigeonPeloton trend shows flocks pedaling in formation. One viral fail: a pigeon crashed into a pretzel cart, leaving feathers and mustard everywhere.
Tabloids flapped. “BIRD BIKE BOOM” screamed the Post. The Daily News countered: “COOP COMMUTE.”
Mayor Adams praised it as “wings of progress.” Governor Hochul muttered, “At this point, just give them MetroCards.”
