NYC Launches Yoga on the Subway Program

Bend and ride

According to reports, the MTA has launched “Yoga on the Subway,” encouraging commuters to perform downward dog between stops. The idea came after a survey revealed 87% of riders are already involuntarily stretching while clinging to poles during rush hour.

Certified instructors now ride select cars, shouting, “Inhale… ignore the man eating a tuna sandwich next to you.” Poses include “Delayed Pigeon,” “Express Locust,” and “Forgot MetroCard Warrior.” Riders say the biggest challenge is maintaining balance while the train screeches unpredictably.

One rider said, “I achieved inner peace until a saxophonist blasted ‘Careless Whisper’ two feet from my mat.” Tourists are confused. “We thought we bought MetroCards, not class passes,” said a family from Texas. Still, attendance is booming—especially among office workers desperate to reduce tension from sitting near screaming influencers live-streaming in Car 6.

TikTok’s #SubwayYoga trend shows yogis holding tree pose while dodging strollers. A viral clip captured a man accidentally performing splits when the train jerked at Canal Street.

Tabloids stretched it. “NAMASTE IN TRANSIT” screamed the Post. The Daily News countered: “METTA-CARD.”

Mayor Adams called it “public wellness on rails.” Governor Hochul muttered, “If someone spills kombucha on me during cobra pose, I’m shutting this down.”
