NYC Bodegas Offer Crypto Change

Bitcoin for your bacon, egg, and cheese

Spare change is dead. According to reports, bodegas across the five boroughs are now offering crypto instead of coins. Customers buying bacon, egg, and cheese sandwiches can walk away with fractions of Bitcoin in place of nickels and dimes.

“Quarters are useless. Crypto is forever,” said one Bushwick bodega owner while scanning a QR code taped to his cat’s collar. Prices are displayed in both USD and Dogecoin, though the latter fluctuates so wildly that one sandwich sold for $3, another for $600.

Locals are split. “I just wanted a Snapple, now I own Ethereum,” complained one Harlem resident. Tourists love it: “Best souvenir ever—digital change from a deli bagel.”

Tabloids cashed in. “BODEGA BITCOIN” screamed the Post. The Daily News countered: “DOGE-EGG-CHEESE.” TikTok’s #CryptoBodega trend showed influencers paying in Shiba Inu coin and accidentally overdrafting their rent.

Mayor Adams applauded the move, noting his own paycheck is in Bitcoin. Governor Hochul warned that blockchain-powered cats might replace bodega clerks next.

For now, spare quarters are history, but crypto confusion is the new normal with your morning coffee.
