Selfie fast lane
According to reports, the Empire State Building has unveiled a new “influencer-only express elevator,” shooting content creators directly to the 86th floor in under 30 secondsno waiting behind tourists with disposable cameras. The elevator comes fully equipped with ring lights, a TikTok backdrop, and a staff member trained to shout “Yaaas queen!” every time someone poses with the skyline.
“Its about respecting content,” said the buildings spokesperson. “Why should a vlogger with 10 million followers wait in line behind a family from Kansas?”
Reactions were swift. Regular visitors feel snubbed. “I waited 90 minutes with my crying kids just so a guy named @SkyDaddyNYC could live-stream his jawline? Unreal,” fumed one tourist. Influencers, however, are ecstatic. “Ive been looking for an elevator that matches my aesthetic,” said one, clutching a matcha latte mid-shoot.
The elevator also features Wi-Fi, branded filters, and an automated voice that says “Tag us, please” in multiple accents. Rumors suggest YouTube stars are negotiating exclusive time slots so they can fake romantic proposals with fewer photobombers.
TikToks #SkylineFastLane shows influencers striking poses while screaming as the elevator hits max speed. One viral clip featured a couple breaking up mid-ascent when the influencer refused to share floor space with anyone below 50k followers.
Tabloids mocked the move. The Post yelled: “UPVOTE TO THE SKY.” The Daily News countered: “TOWER OF SELFIE.”
Mayor Adams praised it: “Its New York innovation. We elevate influence.” Governor Hochul muttered, “If elevators start charging surge pricing, Im banning buttons.”
