NYC Rats Unionize Against Tourists

Demand fair crumbs and respect

It was bound to happen. According to reports, New York’s rats have officially unionized, demanding fair wages, dental care, and guaranteed pizza slice rights. The union, Local Cheddar 1199, claims that “tourists dropping crumbs is labor, not charity.”

“We keep this city running—literally, in circles around trash bags—and it’s time humans recognized us,” said one spokesrat, gnawing through a Dunkin’ Donuts cup. The rats also demanded hazard pay for dodging Citi Bikes and free MetroCards, since they technically use the subways more than some commuters.

Reactions are mixed. “Honestly, I trust the rats more than my landlord,” said one Brooklynite. A Times Square vendor added, “If they want crumbs, they can have ’em. I’m busy overcharging for hot dogs.” Meanwhile, tourists shrieked when they saw a rat holding a tiny picket sign reading “More Cheese, Less Squeeze.”

Tabloids squeaked loud. “RODENT RISING” screamed the Post. The Daily News countered: “OCCU-PIE.” TikTok’s #RatStrike2025 trend featured influencers staging mock negotiations with their apartment infestations.

Mayor Adams tried to calm tensions, promising to appoint a Rat Liaison Officer. Governor Hochul admitted she’d “consider rat healthcare if it reduces subway delays.”

For now, New Yorkers know the score: pay up in crumbs, or face a full-blown squeaky uprising.
