NYC Taxi Drivers Offer Therapy Sessions

Meters and feelings running

According to reports, yellow cab drivers are doubling as therapists. For $15 a ride, plus tip, you can vent about your ex, your boss, or why you thought moving to Bushwick was a good idea. The meter runs on both distance and emotional baggage.

“I told him my mother-in-law problems, he told me his radiator problems. We bonded,” said one rider. Drivers say business is booming, though tissues cost extra.

TikTok’s #CabbieCounseling features riders crying mid-traffic jam, then cheering as the driver hands them gum and unsolicited life advice. One clip shows a driver shouting, “DUMP HIM!” while weaving through Midtown.

Tabloids spilled. “TALK IS CHEAP, PLUS TIP” screamed the Post. The Daily News countered: “THERAPY WITH A HORN.”

Mayor Adams praised it as “emotional infrastructure.” Governor Hochul muttered, “It’s still cheaper than my therapist.”
