MTA Announces New ‘Nap Cars’ on Subway

Sleep now, smell later

According to reports, the MTA is rolling out “Nap Cars” on select subway lines, designed for commuters who want to sleep in peace without being woken up by mariachi bands, breakdancers, or someone selling bootleg phone chargers. Each Nap Car comes with recliners salvaged from old movie theaters, dim lighting, and a faint lavender scent meant to cover “authentic New York musk.”

“We’re giving New Yorkers a safe place to collapse,” said an MTA rep. “We can’t fix delays, but we can make your nap miserable in style.”

Reactions are mixed. Some commuters are excited. “Finally, a place to cry myself to sleep that isn’t the F train floor,” said one office worker. Others are skeptical. “If I wanted to nap with strangers, I’d move back in with my ex,” groaned another.

Upgrades are planned: $10 will buy a blanket that smells like nostalgia, $20 grants noise-canceling headphones blasting muffled construction noises for authenticity. Rats, however, are reportedly furious. “Napping is our brand,” said one, sipping a Red Bull.

TikTok’s #SubwayNapCar is trending, featuring clips of people snoring in perfect harmony, an influencer live-streaming eight hours of REM sleep, and a viral moment when the conductor accidentally announced “Nap car only—rest of you, suffer.” Vendors now sell illegal pillows outside stations, promising “100% goose feather, 0% bedbugs.”

Tabloids snoozed in. The Post shouted: “Zzz TRAIN.” The Daily News countered: “SLEEP AND SUBWAY.”

Mayor Adams supported it: “New Yorkers deserve REM cycles.” Governor Hochul muttered, “If Long Island Rail Road adds bunk beds, I’m banning melatonin.”
