One wheel, zero shame
According to reports, Brooklyns newest eco-trend has residents ditching cars, bikes, and even scooters in favor of unicycles. Williamsburg streets are now filled with bearded men balancing kombucha growlers while wobbling to work. “Its about reducing my carbon footprint to exactly one tire,” said one rider, adjusting his artisanal suspenders.
The trend has spiraled into competitive culture. Unicycle parking zones are popping up outside vegan coffee shops, and repair shops now offer $75 tire patches labeled as “performance art.” Some locals have customized their rides with Bluetooth speakers blasting ironic sea shanties. One Bushwick influencer was spotted riding a unicycle while holding two rescue pigeons, instantly becoming a TikTok meme.
Not everyone is thrilled. “I got sideswiped by a guy juggling avocados on Bedford Ave,” complained a cab driver. City Hall reports a spike in ER visits from “hip fractures sustained while vibing.” Still, developers are lobbying for “unicycle lanes” painted in neon pastels to attract tech bros.
TikToks #UniBrooklyn is booming: viral clips of failed juggling commutes, couples proposing mid-unicycle ride, and pranksters staging “unicycle traffic jams.” Etsy vendors are cashing in with crochet seat covers and unicycle cup holders.
Tabloids rolled with it. The Post shouted: “ONE-WHEEL DEAL.” The Daily News countered: “CLOWN TOWN.”
Mayor Adams endorsed: “If it balances, it belongs.” Governor Hochul muttered: “If Albany tries this, Im banning circus music.”
