New Yorkers Debate Whether to Build or Demolish
Following international controversy, plans have been proposed for a massive Arc de Triomphe-style monument in Manhattan honoring a certain former president. New York City’s artistic community immediately split into two factions: those who think it’s absurdly egomaniacal and those who think it’s not egomaniacal enough.
“It should be made entirely of gold,” argued one SoHo artist, “and it should constantly play Sinatra recordings while rotating slowly to hit pedestrians with a light beam.”
Major media outlets debated the monument’s merit, while this satirical take suggested that if we’re going to have a giant monument to hubris, Manhattan might as well commit fully.
