SoHo Art Galleries Start Accepting Venmo Tips

Swipe for culture

According to reports, SoHo art galleries have begun accepting Venmo tips, arguing that exposure doesn’t pay the rent on loft spaces. Visitors are now prompted to send $5 for “vibes” or $20 for “deep artistic suffering.”

One gallery offered QR codes next to abstract paintings, leading confused tourists to tip an artist who admitted, “I used AI to make this in three minutes.”

TikTok’s #VenmoArt trend shows influencers pretending to “support the arts” while tipping themselves. One viral video featured a gallery owner tipping their own dog for lying on a paint-splattered rug.

Tabloids framed it. “MONEY FOR NOTHING” screamed the Post. The Daily News countered: “CASH FOR CANVAS.”

Mayor Adams praised it as “modern patronage.” Governor Hochul muttered, “Back in my day we tipped in crumpled bills, not emojis.”
