Feathered solidarity
According to reports, New York pigeons have officially unionized, demanding better working conditions for poop-dropping, french fry theft, and rooftop cooing. “Weve been exploited too long,” said union leader Squawk-47. Their contract includes seed subsidies, winter coat allowances, and hazard pay for dodging CitiBikes.
Residents are divided. “I already pay $3,000 for rent; I dont need union pigeons charging me airspace fees,” complained one Brooklynite. Tourists, however, are amused: “Theyre cuter than the rats,” said a visitor while feeding crumbs.
Critics warn this could cripple the city. “Imagine if pigeons go on strike,” said one economist. “No poop, no atmosphere.” Yet union leaders insist theyre prepared. “We can shut down Times Square in minutes,” promised Squawk-47. Managementaka the Parks Departmenthasnt responded, though they did post a job ad for “Bird Negotiator.”
TikToks #UnionPigeon trend shows flocks picketing near Grand Central with tiny signs. A viral video captured pigeons dive-bombing Wall Street while chanting “COO-nity!”
Tabloids flapped it. “BIRDS STRIKE BACK” screamed the Post. The Daily News countered: “COO AND ORDER.”
Mayor Adams praised it as “avian solidarity.” Governor Hochul muttered, “If pigeons get dental before teachers, Im banning breadcrumbs.”
