Coney Island Mermaid Parade Goes Corporate

Sponsored scales

According to reports, the iconic Coney Island Mermaid Parade has been taken over by corporate sponsors, leaving locals complaining that “Neptune never would’ve signed a Pepsi deal.”

Marchers are now forced to wear costumes with logos, including mermaids carrying Amazon shells and Poseidons wielding Dunkin’ Donuts tridents. Even the floats have QR codes leading to limited-edition mermaid NFTs.

TikTok’s #CorporateMermaids trend shows marchers reluctantly singing jingles instead of sea shanties. One viral video showed a giant crab costume collapsing after a sponsorship banner tangled its claws.

Tabloids splashed. “SEA SELL-OUT” screamed the Post. The Daily News countered: “MERMAIDS FOR MONEY.”

Mayor Adams praised it as “branding synergy.” Governor Hochul muttered, “I miss when parades were just weird and drunk.”
