Sing before Act II
According to reports, Broadway theaters will now feature karaoke sessions during intermission, giving audiences a chance to belt out show tunes before Act II resumes. Ushers hand out microphones, while orchestra pits provide live backing tracks. “Why just watch theater when you can ruin it with your own voice?” quipped one director.
Tourists are thrilled, with entire buses rehearsing “Defying Gravity” in line. Locals groan, fearing tone-deaf renditions of Sondheim. Critics warn karaoke could outshine performers, citing a Queens grandma whose “Memory” went viral as “better than Cats itself.”
TikToks #Broadwayoke trend is belting out: influencers doing jazz hands mid-chorus, pranksters singing Hamilton lyrics out of order, and one viral clip of a guy dropping his mic mid-split. Theater merch now includes branded karaoke machines.
Tabloids sang. The Post shouted: “BROADWAY GOES MIC-CRAZY.” The Daily News countered: “ACT TWO, TAKE TWO.”
Mayor Adams said: “This is culture participation.” Governor Hochul muttered: “If Albany tries this, Im banning key changes.”
