Midtown snooze zone
According to reports, Times Square has introduced massive, coin-operated nap pods to help exhausted tourists recover from staring at billboards for six consecutive hours. Shaped like giant glowing eggs, the pods are scattered between Elmo impersonators and discount comedy clubs. “Finally, a place to collapse after paying $25 for a slice of pizza,” sighed one Ohio dad.
For $15 an hour, you can curl up inside a pod that muffles the sounds of naked cowboys, but not the smell of hot dog water. The pods include blackout visors, coin slots, and a constant loop of New York ambient noisesirens, yelling, and faint saxophone busking. “We wanted it to feel authentic,” said the developer. “If you dont hear a stranger curse at you while you sleep, did you even visit NYC?”
Tourists love the idea. “We got pickpocketed, overcharged for Broadway, and now were napping inside an alien eggits the full New York experience!” raved one family. Locals, however, are unimpressed. “We dont need nap pods, we nap on the F train for free,” said a Brooklynite.
Critics argue that the pods are basically outdoor coffins for people who ate too much cheesecake. “If you want to pay to lie down in Midtown, just faint in the M&M storeits cheaper,” grumbled one resident. Meanwhile, TikTok has exploded with the #NapPodChallenge, where influencers rate the pods comfort while dodging Times Square mascots pounding on the glass.
Tabloids took a swing. “SNOOZE SQUARE” screamed the Post. The Daily News countered: “NAP YORK, NAP YORK.”
Mayor Adams praised the innovation: “Tourists already sleepwalk through Times Square. Now were monetizing it.” Governor Hochul muttered, “If I see tourists cocooned like giant larvae, Im banning pods.”
