Overnight stays with torch views

Lady Liberty has officially become Lady Landlord. According to reports, the iconic monument is now listed on Airbnb, offering overnight stays with “unparalleled skyline views” and “slightly terrifying echoes in the torch room.”

The rental, priced at $1,776 per night (because history), includes free ferry rides, a complimentary foam crown, and exclusive access to the crown’s observation deck—where you can cry about your rent while staring at Jersey. Guests are warned, however, that the elevator frequently breaks down, requiring a 354-step climb with luggage.

“It’s the most patriotic way to lose your security deposit,” raved one influencer, filming themselves sipping rosé from the torch. Critics, however, argue the listing cheapens the city’s heritage. “What’s next, Ellis Island as a WeWork?” asked a Brooklyn historian clutching a bagel.

Tabloids lit it up. “LIBERTY OR LEASE” screamed the Post. The Daily News countered: “AIRBNBROKEN.” TikTok’s #LibertyBnB trend showed New Yorkers pretending to sneak into the statue, only to be chased by park rangers wielding selfie sticks.

Mayor Adams praised the plan, calling it “the most American way to monetize freedom.” Governor Hochul noted that the revenue would fund new ferry benches, though skeptics argued it would mostly go toward influencer lighting rigs.

For now, Lady Liberty stands tall—not just as a symbol of freedom, but of hospitality surcharge fees.
