According to reports, Staten Island Ferry has introduced karaoke nights to make the 25-minute ride “less like punishment.” Passengers are encouraged to belt out Bon Jovi while dodging spilled Dunkin iced coffees.
One commuter said, “Id rather hear Journey than engine hum.” Another countered, “No, you wouldnt.”
TikToks #Ferryoke trend shows Staten Islanders screaming power ballads into life jackets. One viral video featured a woman singing “Empire State of Mind” while the boat stalled mid-Hudson.
Tabloids sang. “FERRY IDOL” screamed the Post. The Daily News countered: “BRIDGE OVER TROUBLED VOCALS.”
Mayor Adams praised it as “floating culture.” Governor Hochul muttered, “God help us when someone tries Mariah.”
