The ASMR Nobody Requested

In the darkest corners of TikTok, where humanity’s judgment goes to die, exists a subculture of people filming themselves eating with their mouths open. These social media miscreants call it ASMR; normal people call it assault. Yet millions watch, hypnotized by the wet, grotesque sounds of strangers masticating like farm animals.

The loud chewing TikTok phenomenon defies explanation. These videos feature close-up shots of mouths chomping on pickles, noodles, or fried chicken while microphones capture every disgusting squelch and smack. The creators believe they’re providing “relaxing content.” They’re actually creating evidence for future alien researchers studying humanity’s decline.

People with misophonia—those triggered by chewing sounds—stumble upon these videos and experience immediate rage. Meanwhile, the comment sections fill with viewers claiming they find it “satisfying” and “tingly,” which suggests society requires serious intervention. When did we collectively decide that watching strangers eat like dogs was entertainment?

The creators defend their content as a legitimate art form, pointing to their follower counts as validation. But popularity doesn’t equal quality—millions of people also enjoyed lawn darts and lead paint. Some things are popular because humans occasionally make terrible collective decisions, like electing fascists or making mukbang a career path.

Restaurants across New York now feature signs: “No filming loud chewing content.” Apparently we need explicit rules preventing people from recording themselves eating like wild boars. This is where we are as a civilization—policing basic table manners because clout-chasing has overcome human decency.
