Local birds finally get respect
The Bronx Zoo has officially embraced New Yorks most infamous bird: the pigeon. According to reports, a new exhibit highlights “the citys true wildlife.” Tourists are stunned to discover pigeons showcased in glass habitats identical to the subway platforms they already infest for free.
“We wanted to honor the citys most resilient creature,” said a zookeeper while handing out stale bagels as feed. The exhibit includes pigeons pecking at dollar slices, pigeons strutting across fake park benches, and even one robotic pigeon that steals French fries for authenticity.
Locals are bemused. “I pay $35 admission to see the same bird that poops on my fire escape?” one Bronx resident scoffed. Yet TikToks #PigeonPalace trend is going viral, especially the “Selfie with Sal the One-Eyed Pigeon.”
Tabloids had fun. “FLY HIGH” screamed the Post. The Daily News countered: “WHAT A COOP.”
Mayor Adams praised the move as “true New York representation.” Governor Hochul noted she once fought a pigeon for a pretzel on 7th Avenue. Now she calls it art.
