Queens channels Venice vibes
Queens just got more romantic. According to reports, Astoria now offers gondola rides along the East River. Gondoliers belt out Sinatra classics with thick New York accents, and instead of roses, passengers receive gyro platters.
“Its Venice meets Queens,” said one smitten rider. Boats are decorated with LED lights and Greek flags, while seagulls serve as unofficial tour guides. Couples can book sunset packages, though the sound of the N train occasionally ruins the mood.
Reactions are buoyant. “I spilled tzatziki in my lap but it was magical,” said one tourist. Locals joke its the only gondola where the captain complains about Mets pitching. TikToks #AstoriaGondola trend shows influencers proposing while dodging floating pizza boxes.
Tabloids rowed in. “CANAL STREET, QUEENS” screamed the Post. The Daily News countered: “OAR YOU KIDDING.”
Mayor Adams praised it as “global culture at borough prices.” Governor Hochul noted shed only ride if someone invented gondola surge pricing.
For now, Astoria offers the citys splashiest date nightno passport required.
