Sky litigation
According to reports, a group of Queens residents is suing LaGuardia Airport, claiming the constant airplane-shaped shadows crossing their backyards amount to “psychological harassment and unauthorized sky graffiti.”
“Every afternoon, my barbecue is ruined by a Boeing eclipse,” complained one homeowner. “How am I supposed to flip burgers under a jet silhouette?” Another resident said her toddler now identifies clouds as “Delta-branded ghosts.”
The lawsuit seeks damages for stress, suntan interruptions, and the resale value of pools shaped like airplanes. Plaintiffs also demand that the airport provide shadow-free zones where locals can picnic without feeling like theyre in a Tom Cruise movie.
LaGuardia officials responded dryly: “You bought a house under a runway. What did you expect, butterflies?”
TikToks #PlaneShadowProblems showcases clips of families trying to sunbathe while screaming as shadows pass, one viral barbecue ruined when everyone ran for cover, and a clip of a shadow falling perfectly on a Dunkin Donuts sign, which locals hailed as divine intervention.
Tabloids landed hard. The Post screamed: “SUE THE SKY.” The Daily News countered: “PLANE AND SIMPLE.”
Mayor Adams said: “This is New Yorkyou dont sue the sky, the sky sues you.” Governor Hochul muttered, “If planes cast shadows on Albany, Im banning daylight savings.”
