Blockchain breakfast
According to reports, New York bagel shops are going digital, offering schmear purchases exclusively in cryptocurrency. Cream cheese is now denominated in Bitcoin, while lox is pegged to Ethereum. “Were making breakfast decentralized,” said one deli owner while scanning a QR code tattooed on his forearm.
Locals are skeptical. “I just wanted a sesame bagel, and now I need a Coinbase wallet?” complained one commuter. Tourists, however, love it. “I paid in Dogecoin and got extra scallion cream cheese,” bragged a visitor from California.
Economists warn the system is unstable. “One minute your schmear costs $2, the next its $200,” said one analyst. Meanwhile, rival delis have begun issuing their own currencies, such as SchmearCoin and LoxToken. “Were minting everything on the blockchaineven napkins,” said another owner.
TikToks #CryptoBagel shows influencers trading sesame coins for everything bagels at pop-up exchanges. A viral clip showed a guy trying to pay with NFT art, only to be handed a stale cinnamon raisin.
Tabloids spread it. “BITCREAM” screamed the Post. The Daily News countered: “BAGELCHAIN.”
Mayor Adams praised it as “digital deli innovation.” Governor Hochul muttered, “If my schmear crashes, Im banning cream cheese futures.”
