SoHo Opens Candlelit Crosswalks

Pedestrian safety with ambiance

SoHo has unveiled candlelit crosswalks to improve both safety and mood. According to reports, pedestrians now glide across streets bathed in romantic flickers while cabs honk in the background. The wax is allegedly artisanal and sourced from Brooklyn beekeepers.

“It’s less jaywalking, more date night,” said one shopper holding a $500 scarf. Waiters from nearby restaurants have already begun seating couples in the middle of intersections for “crosswalk dining experiences.”

Locals are split. “It smells like Yankee Candle threw up,” grumbled a delivery cyclist. Still, TikTok’s #LitCrosswalks trend shows influencers posing mid-street as if proposing to the Empire State Building.

Tabloids sparked. “WICKED IDEA” screamed the Post. The Daily News countered: “STREETLIGHT, BUT MAKE IT MOOD.”

Mayor Adams praised it as “traffic calming with vibes.” Governor Hochul demanded assurances the candles were drip-free. Spoiler: they are not.
