đ° Satirical Report: âFirst Dates Now Come With Safety Helmets, Emotional Liability Waiversâ
By: Slightly Bitter Correspondent, Paige Turner
In a bold move to protect emotional well-being and spare innocent bystanders, the National Association of Relationship Trials (N.A.R.T.) has issued a new set of regulations requiring helmets and pre-date disclaimers for all first dates occurring in public spaces.
The announcement came after a staggering rise in reports from waitstaff, Uber drivers, and bathroom mirror pep-talkers about the collateral damage caused by first-date awkwardness. One traumatized server described witnessing a 46-minute debate about who should pay for lukewarm spinach artichoke dip, culminating in a gentleman declaring, âIâm a feminist, but fiscally conservative.â
The waiver, now downloadable on most dating apps, includes clauses such as:
-
âI accept that they might show up wearing cargo shorts.â
-
âI understand that âIâm between jobsâ can mean unemployed since 2017.â
-
âI agree to not fake a bathroom emergency unless absolutely necessary.â
Experts say the waiver has reduced ghosting by 12% and increased bathroom window escapes by 34%.
In an exclusive interview, Samantha Lowenthal, a 29-year-old first date survivor, recounted her experience:
âHe brought a snake. Like, in a tote bag. Said her name was âTrust Issues.â He meant it as a joke but the snake was real. And possibly venomous.â
Meanwhile, restaurants are adapting. Some have installed âDate Damage Control Boothsâ for diners in distress. These booths offer chocolate, a neutral-smelling stranger for fake rescue calls, and a therapist named Carl who just listens and nods.
âWeâre not here to judge,â Carl told us while handing tissues to someone whoâd just endured a monologue about NFTs. âWeâre here to keep you from texting your ex.â
Though skeptics question the need for such measures, N.A.R.T. insists it’s all about safety and expectations management.
âIf youâre going to tell someone youâre âreally into travel,â at least have been outside your ZIP code,â says N.A.R.T. spokesperson Lindsay Awkwardson.
As the first-date scene continues to evolve, one thing remains clear: helmets may protect your head, but nothing shields your soul from someone quoting Joe Rogan as their personal philosopher.
