Disco across the harbor
According to reports, the Staten Island Ferry will soon feature live DJs spinning house, techno, and disco during commutes. “Finally, the ferry is litliterally,” shouted one rider over pounding bass. The program, called “Harbor Beats,” aims to make Staten Island relevant again.
The DJ booths sit next to the snack bar, where commuters now sip $15 cocktails while watching Lady Liberty strobe under club lights. “I missed my stop because the drop was too good,” confessed one commuter. Ferry workers double as hype men, announcing arrivals with air horns.
Locals are divided. “Its a vibe,” said a DJ in cargo shorts. Others arent amused. “I vomited from the bass and the waves,” said one teacher. Noise complaints already pour in from nearby tugboats. Rival clubs in Manhattan fear competition from a “floating nightclub with free admission.”
TikToks #FerryRave has exploded, showing commuters grinding near lifeboats and tourists fist-pumping on the deck. One viral video shows a seagull stealing glow sticks mid-song.
Tabloids roared: “BOAT BEATS” (Post) vs. “HARBOR RAVERS” (Daily News). Mayor Adams praised: “Its nightlife, but nautical.” Governor Hochul muttered, “If ferries add bottle service, Im banning oceans.”
