NYC Baristas Form Latte Art Union

Demand foam-based recognition

It’s not just workers rising up—it’s the foam. According to reports, New York City baristas have formed the first-ever Latte Art Union, demanding fair wages, creative freedom, and recognition for their painstaking foam masterpieces. Their slogan: “No Justice, No Froth.”

The movement started when a Williamsburg barista was reprimanded for drawing a portrait of Mayor Adams in soy foam. Now, cafes from Queens to the Bronx are joining forces, staging “foam-ins” where customers wait 45 minutes for politically charged cappuccinos. Designs range from pigeons in hard hats to Governor Hochul in latte foam, holding a pumpkin spice scepter.

Cafe owners argue that latte art doesn’t pay rent. “If I charged extra for every foam cat face, customers would revolt,” one complained. But baristas insist foam is the heart of the craft. “Anyone can make coffee. Only we can make your espresso look like a Banksy,” said one union leader.

Tabloids perked up. “FROTH FIGHT” blared the Post. The Daily News countered: “MOCHA MADNESS.” Instagram feeds overflowed with solidarity shots of unionized foam hearts, tagged #FrothFreedom. TikTok trends included “Draw Your Boss in Foam” challenges.

Mayor Adams, a known black coffee drinker, said he respects the union but prefers “liquid over lattes.” Governor Hochul tried to mediate, ordering a triple oat milk latte with “peace dove” foam. Starbucks declined comment but quietly hired foam artists from Milan.

For now, the froth war brews on. As one Brooklyn customer said, staring at a foamy caricature of himself: “It’s the most expensive therapy session I’ve ever had.”
