Pizza slice benefits secured
According to reports, New York Citys rats have officially unionized under the banner of the United Rodents Local 212. After years of unpaid overtime dragging pizza slices across subway tracks, the rats are demanding fair wages, hazard pay for dodging commuters, and universal access to bagel crumbs. “We built this city, literally, bite by bite,” said the unions spokesperson, nibbling on a garlic knot.
The movement began when a group of rats organized a wildcat strike in Times Square, refusing to scurry for tourists until paid in chicken wing bones. Negotiations turned ugly when a Midtown landlord accused the rats of “squatting.” The rats retaliated by staging a sit-in at Katzs Deli, gnawing through pastrami until their demands were heard.
Highlights of the union contract include mandatory pizza slice breaks, 401k (401 crumbs), and healthcare covering glue traps, poison exposure, and tail injuries from subway doors. The rats also secured “rat-friendly housing” rights, meaning they can claim basements rent-free as long as they squeak three times in court.
TikToks #UnionRat is trending: clips include rats marching with tiny picket signs reading “SQUEAK EQUAL PAY,” a viral dance of rats union chanting on the L train, and an influencer trying to interview a rat but getting his phone chewed. A Broadway producer is already developing *Les Rataerables.*
Tabloids squealed. The Post blared: “RATIFIED!” The Daily News countered: “SQUEAKONOMICS.”
Mayor Adams praised the rats: “Theyre organizing better than some human unions.” Governor Hochul muttered: “If squirrels unionize, Im banning trees.”
