NYC Doormen Strike Over Tip Etiquette

Refuse to open doors for Venmo users

The city’s luxury lobbies are in chaos: reports confirm that NYC doormen are striking, refusing to open doors for residents who tip via Venmo instead of crisp bills slipped at Christmas.

“We’re doormen, not QR codes,” said one union leader, arms crossed in front of a Park Avenue high-rise. The strikers claim digital tips strip away the personal connection of sliding cash discreetly into gloved hands. “Nothing beats the thrill of a folded twenty,” one doorman sighed.

Residents are outraged. “I already pay $12,000 in monthly rent,” wailed one hedge fund tenant. “Now I have to carry cash like it’s 1998?” Meanwhile, delivery workers cheer the strike, relieved someone else is dealing with wealthy tenants’ passive-aggressive Venmo notes like “thx bro.”

Tabloids chimed in. “DOORMEN DIG IN” blasted the Post. The Daily News countered: “VENMO NO-GO.” Social feeds filled with memes of doormen refusing to open revolving doors, captioned “Cash or Crash.” TikTok launched the challenge #DoorDashCash, where users dramatically hand dollar bills to strangers in elevators.

Mayor Adams promised to explore hybrid solutions like “crypto tips” but was booed when he suggested Dogecoin. Governor Hochul promised to support workers but only if she gets elevator priority in luxury buildings. Building owners fear chaos as residents fumble for exact change in Gucci wallets.

For now, the strike holds firm. As one resident discovered, clutching her oat milk latte outside a locked lobby: “Without cash, the door just doesn’t open.”
